Hydrodynamic transport coefficients in relativistic scalar field theory.

چکیده
Hydrodynamic transport coefficients may be evaluated from first principles in a weakly coupled scalar field theory at arbitrary temperature. In a theory with cubic and quartic interactions, the infinite class of diagrams which contribute to the leading weak coupling behavior are identified and summed. The resulting expression may be reduced to a single linear integral equation, which is shown to be identical to the corresponding result obtained from a linearized Boltzmann equation describing effective thermal excitations with temperature dependent masses and scattering amplitudes. The effective Boltzmann equation is valid even at very high temperature where the thermal lifetime and mean free path are short compared to the Compton wavelength of the fundamental particles. Numerical results for the shear and the bulk viscosities are presented. Submitted to Physical Review D.

Transport coefficients of a relativistic plasma.
In this work, a self-consistent transport theory for a relativistic plasma is developed. Using the notation of Braginskii [S. I. Braginskii, in Reviews of Plasma Physics, edited by M. A. Leontovich (Consultants Bureau, New York, 1965), Vol. 1, p. 174], we provide semianalytical forms of the electrical resistivity, thermoelectric, and thermal conductivity tensors for a Lorentzian plasma in a mag...
متن کاملGravity & Hydrodynamics: Lectures on the fluid-gravity correspondence
We discuss recent developments in the hydrodynamic description of strongly coupled conformal field theories using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In particular, we review aspects of the fluid-gravity correspondence which provides a map between a class of inhomogeneous, dynamical, black hole solutions in asymptotically AdS spacetimes and arbitrary fluid flows in the strongly interacting boundary fie...
متن کاملFrom quantum field theory to hydrodynamics: Transport coefficients and effective kinetic theory.
The evaluation of hydrodynamic transport coefficients in relativistic field theory, and the emergence of an effective kinetic theory description, is examined. Even in a weakly-coupled scalar field theory, interesting subtleties arise at high temperatures where thermal renormalization effects are important. In this domain, a kinetic theory description in terms of the fundamental particles ceases...
متن کاملTransport coefficients of O(N) scalar field theories close to the critical point
In recent decades transport coefficients of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) have attracted much interest in the context of Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) experiment, which are aimed at creating and studying the quarkgluon plasma. One of the interesting experimental findings, the large elliptic flow v2 observed in high energy non-central collisions, implies that the spatial anisotropy of th...
متن کاملTransport coefficients in high temperature gauge theories : ( I ) Leading - log results
Transport coefficients, such as viscosities, diffusivities, or conductivity, characterize the dynamics of long wavelength, low frequency fluctuations in a medium. In condensed matter applications transport coefficients are typically measured, not calculated from first principles, due to the complexity of the underlying microscopic dynamics. But in a weakly coupled quantum field theory, transpor...
